The wait has finally come to an end for Rotax drivers from all over Europe and beyond. With the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy Winter Cup in Campillos, Spain being held this coming weekend, it signals the start of the international racing season for the single-brand series at European level. Almost 200 ambitious participants have submitted their entries for the event taking place not far from the Costa del Sol coastal region on the Mediterranean Sea – with exciting track action expected for the season-opener.
Before the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy duel kicks off for this year's titles from April 22nd to 24th in Genk, Belgium, this popular one-off event makes a welcome return to the Rotax calendar. Last year, the Winter Cup was planned as part of the RMC Euro Trophy program in Campillos, but had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. The anticipation is therefore high for the competition to get underway at the newly resurfaced Circuito Karting Campillos from February 18th to 20th.
"This year we are entering the fifth season of the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy. After last year's cancellation of our Winter Cup event in Campillos, we are now all even more pleased to be able to hold the race. The response from the field of participants was already very positive at the beginning of the year. Drivers from all over Europe and also India are taking the opportunity to gain their first experience at a high level before the start of the Euro Trophy championship classification," says organizer Meik Wagner from Camp Company, looking forward to the event on the 1,580-meter track with great pleasure.
The Senior category has a particularly strong field of contenders in Campillos. A total of 72 drivers, including many well-known names, will no doubt ensure there’ll be some tough battles on the demanding track near Málaga. In each of the Mini, Junior, and DD2 categories there is a full grid of more than 36 entries plus a good line-up of experienced competitors in the DD2 Masters.
Great prizes await the most successful Rotax kart drivers of the weekend in the Junior, Senior, DD2 and DD2 Masters classes in view of the upcoming race calendar of the Rotax MAX Challenge Euro Trophy. The winners in each category will receive a voucher for free registration in all four rounds of the season. Second and third place winners can look forward to reduced entry fees for the European Rotax series too.
As usual, all those who stay home will have a lot of racing action coming their way online from Campillos. From Friday afternoon, the qualifying sessions can be followed via live timing and livestream at www.rotaxmaxchallenge-eurotrophy.com. On Saturday, there are three heats for every class to determine the starting grids for the final races on Sunday. The prize-giving celebrations will conclude the broadcast.
